I have been fortunate enough to join, organise and assist with a number of mountaineering expeditions and trips. Some of these have gifted me with experiences and memories that are without question my most valued possessions. I have made 18 visits to the mountains of South Asia and I have also trekked and climbed in Central Asia, East Africa, Europe and North America. Several of these expeditions were relatively high-profile, and amongst the high points were the Diamond Couloir on Mt Kenya and Denali in Alaska. However, in recent years my focus has shifted back towards low-profile trips. For me, visiting the more remote regions of the planet is really about getting away and finding that elusive time and place. I find lightweight mountain travel one of the most rewarding pursuits, crossing passes and satiating curiosity, filling in one's personal map of an area. There is no better place for this than Zanskar, N India.
