snow closes the Pensi La

Recent snowfalls have closed the road into Zanskar from Kargil. Attempts were apparently being made to clear the Pensi La but it appears the region has had more snow today closing the Srinagar-Kargil road around Dras. Given that it is now mid-December it is likely that the road will remain closed now for this winter. Zanskaris will now look to sporadic helicopter flights and the chaddar, the frozen Zanskar River, for their next opportunity to get in or out of the Valley.
